Words of Wisdom
Attunement Meditation for August 2008 by Nancy Lynn Cooper.
"Letting the butterfly emerge" by Paul Price.
We’ve been enjoying the butterfly symbol in our time together. The butterfly is a great metaphor. Before it can emerge, there has to be a chrysalis and, in that stage, it goes to mush. Have you ever been in a state of mush? It’s not the greatest place to be--you don’t seem to have much definition! I think many of us are still working through a bit of mush—I know I am. The beauty of attunement is that it holds me in a still place within, despite the mush. Most of the world lacks such a point of stability. Here is another aspect to the mush piece. We, as a part of the “instant” generation, want things to happen immediately. And yet, do larger cycles really work that way? No. They intensify, they bring about something new, and then we move to the next energetic or vibrational place. But there’s a sorting out that needs to take place in the mush, and there is often quite a bit of discomfort around that. If we get impatient we might succeed in creating a new pattern, but is that pattern a product of the radiation of love or is it the product of impatience? One of the groups I have participated in is in a transition process. It has been pretty awkward at certain points; close friendships have been stirred and changed in the process. I think it is part of our caring nature, particularly in the Emissary program, to want to enfold it all. While this is a noble intention, sometimes it doesn’t seem to do much. In this situation, I could see a particular friendship starting to slip away, and I thought, what’s wrong here? I’d try to enfold it, to make room for some of what was working out. Then another good friend of mine offered some wise words: “You know, Love must tell the truth.” Not in a harsh way, not beating somebody over the head with it, but that was what was necessary to start to allow this mush to begin to re-form so that it had the potential of becoming a butterfly again. I feel saddened by the loss of the friendship. But in the process there is a larger piece that is emerging, which, as we begin to know it, we can’t dishonour. We can’t give up our integrity in relation to certain situations. We’ve probably needed to learn how to be gentler in our handling of these things but, by the same token, if you think you can’t fight City Hall--well, try and fight God! Although I can’t stop these larger cycles, I can come into harmony with them (even though some of that process puts me into the mush for a while), so that I can emerge. I just love the fact that my heart has been moved enough to let me work with hurtful situations. And it is a letting process: you have to continue to let go to the next level of vibration in order to participate in it. I feel that in our time together we’ve reshaped some very holy space in this Gathering. Amongst the group who served as a Steering Committee, we realized that what’s happening is the reordering of things. While we’ve worked creatively with that, we’ve also felt some discomfort around it. And I know we all have come together in this way for a very specific shift to happen in each of us. People have come here from many parts of the world, and soon we’ll return home carrying the essence of what took place here. We’ll carry that in our hearts. There is yet another beautiful piece about the butterflies. The monarch butterfly has an amazing two-year cycle that includes a trip between North America and Brazil. The parent leaves South America and comes north to lay the eggs that become the caterpillars. The returning butterfly is a full generation removed from the one that came up. Somehow, across generations, there remains the memory of where they need to be on earth. So I am most thankful that this place is here, that all of us chose to come from around the world to be here, to let our presence in this setting co-create what needed to happen this weekend. Some of us will probably go back to mush! But that’s part of a cycle that’s going to keep re-creating what is new at higher and higher vibrational levels. To use a biblical reference, Eden didn’t go anywhere: we just forgot where it was. As we align ourselves with what it is we know now, we see more and more of Eden on the planet. Yes, it seems to be desecrated in places, but by the same token this Earth Mother that we live on has been very kind to us, and she has more strength than any of us can imagine. For me, that’s the attunement process. I’m here to provide attunement with you in relationship to this beautiful planet of ours, and beyond. We do that in large part through our friendships. There’s an atmosphere about that – like when we choose to dine together rather than merely eat. Even in the midst of all of our busyness, we have to find that place of stillness inside. If I’m not comfortable, in the truest sense, in mush, I can’t provide the space for someone else who’s going through the mush state. I am thankful that we are all here, now, doing it together.
Attunement Meditation for July 2008 by Judie Diamond.
The A,B,Cs of Attunement Bring to mind any of the following as a way of accessing the attunement current, to assist in “getting into the space” or state of consciousness:
Proceed by going through the seven Endocrine Glands and their corresponding Spirits:
Question: What should I do during an attunement?
Go deeper into your internal, eternal Truth
Question: What is it that the Spirit of Life wants me to know?
Let your thoughts clarify, your feelings settle.
Bless others and you will be blessed.
Focus on the things that really count.
Let the energy of Mother earth nurture you.
Think of the riches available under the earth’s surface
invisible to the eye, but palpable
through focused, refined perception.
Rest in the arms of Love
and let your Spirit soar like an eagle.
Attunement Pioneers by Hugh Duff.
I would like to start by honouring each one present at this Gathering, because the adventure, exploration and even risk inherent in Attunement continues to this day. If I don’t sense adventure in every attunement, coming to it fresh and “naked,” then for me it is not quite Attunement. To quote Ralph Waldo Emerson: “Do not go where the path may lead; go instead where there is no path, and leave a trail.” That, to me, is Attunement. My take on the beginnings of Attunement is that it began when our history began. It has always been our Creator’s gift to human beings, to the earth and to all its creatures. But it surfaced in the time of Jesus particularly. In reading some accounts of so-called miracles and healings, there is always something of “Wilt thou be healed?” or “Pick up thy bed and walk.” There was always that requirement of response. In the mid-1940s Albert Ackerly was teaching at Palmer Chiropractic College. Ackerly was an associate of George Shears and John Oshanek in a particular movement known as GPC (God-Patient-Chiropractor). An essential part of chiropractic is the awareness of the innate; letting this internal energy have unrestricted flow through people. These early chiropractors were following a kind of Holy Grail, sensing that there was more to discover, and that, if there was a healing taking place, they weren’t doing it themselves. They worked on a donation basis, which was quite a departure from the practice in those days. George and Albert were interested in the various approaches to chiropractic, and experimented in the area of no-force or light-touch adjustments. This was a technique of generating energy through your arms and into the upper atlas area, and energy was transferred. If the Innate wanted to use that energy it would restore the flow in the body, and if not it would be dissipated. Albert moved to Toronto in the late 1940s, where he set up a chiropractic practice. I was about eight at the time. Albert and my father, Mac Duff, had been casual friends before World War II, and when Mac came back from the war with a backache, he looked him up. The whole family ended up in Albert’s office in one way or another. Here’s another thread to the overall story. One of the ways chiropractors check to see if you need an adjustment is by noting whether there is a difference in the length of your legs. One day a man came in for light-touch adjustment. Just as he was about to begin the adjustment, Albert felt heat and power move through his body and knew something had happened. He looked down and saw the man’s spine move, measured the legs and they were perfect! He was very excited, and a few phone calls were made that day. At this stage he did not know Uranda or his work with Attunement, but he had been given Uranda’s book, The Triune Ray, and connected what he read with his experience. He and Lorne French, who lived at 100 Mile House, shared their explorations, and there were many phone calls back and forth. Meanwhile, word got to Uranda, who was visiting Martin Cecil at 100 Mile Community. I remember Martin telling me the story: Uranda had been looking for an independent discovery of Attunement. He had been tracking the GPC movement and knew of George Shears, but when this letter came he got really excited, to put it mildly. He and Martin got talking and next morning the two of them decided to go to Toronto to meet Albert. Albert opened the first Attunement practice in his chiropractic office in Toronto on June 3, 1949, and we, the Duff family, were among his first patients. It was a great relief to my brother and I – we didn’t like chiropractic adjustments, and found that attunements are more user-friendly! When Uranda and Martin arrived in Toronto, Lorne French and Uranda got together and cross-pollination resulted. The new technique wasn’t called Attunement then: Uranda called them treatments, and chiropractors called them “no-force adjustments.” Later Albert coined the name “Attunement,” a term which Uranda had sometimes used, to delineate these new adjustments from the usual chiropractic type. Uranda taught attunements on Ross Mark’s parents’ living room floor. 1950 was a big year: Uranda and George Shears met in Albert's Attunement office. I remember it well – Uranda stayed in our house for two weeks. These people who are pioneers and are looked upon as great men were simply men, and greatness came through them, and the women were women and greatness came through them. That is the miracle. There are more adventures that could be told, but this is the essence of how it began, how the two roots came together, spiritual and chiropractic, merging a sacred healing art with a spiritual practice. In those days the root of what we are familiar with began, the technique we know came to be born. That was the first wave of chiropractors, and there were others whose explorations took them further. The Bahan brothers followed, and there are chiropractors to this day who become associated with Attunement and whose exploration takes them, and us, further. Attunement is a living practice. Discovery is with us all the time. We look back on the pioneers of Attunement and there are many rich and wonderful stories to be told, and we can tell them for hours. But there are stories to be told today. Many of today’s pioneers in Attunement are sitting in this room, members of the Attunement Guild and the International Association of Attunement Practitioners. And there are today, just as much as in those days, people out beyond what we know as Attunement who have a piece to bring. We sense that: We know what Attunement is now, but what will it be in twenty years when others have brought the pieces they have to bring? Laurence Layne calls his book “Keepers of the Flame.” I like to think we are “Keepers of the Fire--Stokers of the Fire.” That is what we are about this weekend, and every day, with every attunement we share. The work that was begun in Attunement with these men – they didn’t know precisely where they were going and what they were doing. Do we know any more? That is the thrill of it. There is still pioneering to do.
On sharing an attunement - Poem by Tricia Heriz-Smith
Attunement: A Way of Life - Joyce Ellenbecker
While sharing an attunement recently, a question came to mind: Why do I persist in sharing attunements when there are all sorts of other healing modalities to choose from? I have experienced other techniques that have many healing qualities. Some people, regardless of modality, are natural healers. They think it is the technique that is doing the healing: "If only I master the technique, then I will be healed (or can heal others”). This motivation is honorable and noble, but is it really the technique that does the job? I believe it is the connection with spirit that is paramount. Let love radiate without concern for results. While there may be results, that is not my primary concern. My concern is to be connected to the angelic spirit within, which in turn is connected to the universal life spirit or God. When I am connected to the angelic spirit on a consistent basis, then what I offer through Attunement can be extended to wherever the energy/vibration is needed. I still hold a vivid memory of my first attunement - what I remember most is the welcoming of spirit, the connection. Recently, I shared an attunement with someone who taught another form of energy work. After the attunement he stated, "This is not energy work; it is vibrational work. It goes deeper." One year I made a commitment to myself to share a self-attunement every day. Aside from being fun and healthy, I found myself becoming more and more conscious of the various vibrations during a day, time of year, weather pattern and/or whatever else was going on in my world and beyond. Such a simple practice, and yet so far-reaching. Try it and be amazed.
The Power of Creation - Martin Cecil - 1983
Abiding: A Meditation - Uranda - 1952
As human beings go through what they call life, a period of existence on earth, they are (generally speaking) functioning in a pattern of self-activity which gradually but surely destroys the union between God’s love and truth within themselves; and consequently, sooner or later, life ceases to manifest in their bodies. The process of healing in any phase of being with respect to any aspect of life is fundamentally a process of being so centered in God’s love that God’s love and truth, His patterns of perfect design, may come to a point of union in us. And from that union, life is born. The more completely we move toward a centering in the divine source, the more nearly perfect is the outworking of the divine union in us of God’s love and truth, and the more vibrant is the expression of life.
Dancing on the Sea of Glass - Maria Franco - 2006
The World in Our Hands - David Karchere - 2007
The usual human view is that all those people and all those circumstances are out there in our world and, for the most part, “There ain’t nothin’ we can do about it.” We might be able to try to change those people and those circumstances, and for most people, after making that attempt, somewhere along the line they give up. They find some kind of futility in trying to change other people, and on that basis life is futile. For the more ambitious of us, we sally forth into the world to change world circumstances, and in the end that is futile, as well, if we ourselves are not being consumed by the spirit of love.
Green Pastures Attunement Session -
Roger de Winton -1991 In our movement forward in service there are certain stages in accomplishing the release of the current of love. Firstly, there is the matter of thankfulness, knowing this as part of one’s commission, which, naturally leads to being filled with praise to the Lord, so that the attributes of love (kindness, generosity without judgment, gentleness, humility, respect, trust, and many others) may emerge naturally into consciousness. And in love’s rhythm, right steps to handling what is brought may be consciously revealed. Secondly, sustaining of heart and mind in openness, so that this current of thankfulness can continue without allowing things like blame and resentment to enter in. Thirdly, the establishment of tranquility, the state of purification of heart and mind, so that we become so accustomed to carrying these facilities for thankfulness with us through the day, and, so our growing trust for love and what it brings increases. As these steps of entrainment are sustained, there comes a realization that the thankful view allows the power of love to move, to draw factors in our world together and provide a new control to come, without things having to be a certain way. Being willing to be thankful in one’s daily living avoids becoming complacent. In this, it seems that there’s a need to keep checking on one’s motivation to ensure that love has a pathway to move through. It seems natural to remind oneself frequently of the wonder of the commission assumed in the inner realms, the acknowledging of this commission on earth through steps of awakening, and honoring through a thankful heart. In establishing “the way of attunement,” awareness of radiation is the first step, as there is a turning to love with gratitude to Source…. Then certain things happen. Love’s radiation moves through us and brings a conscious assurance. And as this is sustained over time, a certain natural authority begins to emerge in our service. |
