Attunement Travels and Reflections

Cape Town

Cape Town, South Africa is a very interesting place with many beautiful warm hearted people. I discovered this during a ten-day visit there in early August to renew friendships and participate in an attunement workshop.

Miriam Platt (attunement teacher and practitioner) at Gate House, the site of a recent weekend Attunement workshop hosted by The Emissaries in Cape Town.

During my stay in Cape Town I was impressed by the spirit of hospitality that was offered to me and I really felt that Africans have deep hearts that know how to welcome kindred spirits. One of the most memorable events I experienced happened at Novalis Ubuntu Institute. At Novalis, Managing Director Anne-Lise Bure introduced me to a women’s group who meet monthly and offer various modalities of Healing Touch to family and friends. I felt very much at home as we shared insights and thanksgiving as to how we may each add to the current of life to bring greater attunement into the world we each center. These are strong women who are bringing thankfulness into their daily circumstances!

A Blessing Walk while touring the grounds of the nearby Cellers-Hohenort Hotel during the Attunement workshop was a surprisingly potent experience for many of the participants. While walking these gardens some women recalled a mix of childhood and adult memories and they recounted these memories during a feedback session afterwards. It seems the attunement current we were all generating and sharing provided a safe space for these memories to rise up to consciousness and at least to some degree be released so each could live in the present moment more fully. Such open-heartedness and courage by these women reminds me of the wise saying that “if any are bound; none are free.”

I offer a big thank you to all my old and new friends in Cape Town for the spirit of friendship and commitment they offer in blessing both the easy and sometimes challenging circumstances of life in this remarkable city in South Africa.
