Taking the Helm

This Week’s Quotation

It may be seen, then, that as long as human beings are childish there is need for the savior, the parent, the father, so that the children may be enfolded, protected, cared for, in order that they might grow up. The savior is only needful as long as the childish state persists. What universal unwillingness there has been on the part of the human population on earth to grow out of the childish state, that they might become spiritually mature. The evidence of maturity is that one takes responsibility for oneself; one does not expect someone else to assume responsibility for oneself.

~ Martin Cecil

Taking the Helm

Sece Foster,
Inspirational Speaker, Spiritual Coach & Attunement Practitioner

Life’s journey isn’t a straight path—it’s full of twists, turns, and moments of realization. I’ve learned that growing up isn’t just something we do once; it’s something we keep doing, layer by layer.

As I meditated upon Martin’s words, a vivid memory surfaced that beautifully illustrated his point. A few years ago, a client came to me feeling overwhelmed and powerless to change her circumstances. She yearned for a quick fix—a way out of the anguish she was feeling. Yet, as we worked together over several weeks, something remarkable happened. By aligning with her inner truth, she realized the power to transform her life was within her. She didn’t need saving; she needed to trust herself and align with the higher love and wisdom that was within her. What a joy it was to watch her grow in this way.

Spiritual maturity, to me, is like learning to captain a boat. As children, we rely on others to steer us, guide us, and point the way. But there comes a time when we must step up, take the helm, and navigate the waters ourselves. This requires learning to read the currents, adjust our course, and trust our instincts. It’s about becoming the captain of our own lives—embracing responsibility for our direction and aligning with our highest purpose.

As Attunement Practitioners, this is the heart of our work. We don’t transform others; we hold space for them to awaken their inner power. In doing so, we embark on a shared journey of growth and evolution together.

What Is Attunement?

Attunement is a consciousness practice and an energy medicine practice that leads to personal spiritual regeneration.

Inner Assurance

Through all our outer experiences—sickness and health, calamity and fortune, adversity, and smooth sailing, we, as human beings, have the opportunity to claim the Inner Assurance that Lloyd Arthur Meeker wrote about in 1936.

Thank you, Sece, for confirming and celebrating the same truth and message that I celebrate, especially at this time of year, namely that Jesus did not come to save humanity but to show human beings how to live. Also inviting them to rise up, take the helm and assume responsibility for their worlds instead of continuing to languish in a state of childish immaturity.

Taking the helm!!! So critical in our lifecycle – Sece- thank you for this. Many years ago I was on a white-water rafting trip here in Colorado – due to an invitation from a woman very active here. I was living in Arizona at the time and was so excited to have this opportunity. On the second day it was my turn to handle the boat – it was scary for a few minutes – but then it was totally invigorating and exciting and fulfilling!! To take the helm is a huge gift to oneself!!!!

yes, Sece, why not rise into full adulthood rather than look to others to assume my responsibility? The childish state involves much whimpering about what others are doing rather than simply do the job with spiritual authority. I am WITH YOU in that stance and action. Love, Tom C.
