This Week’s Quotation:
The attunement through the laying on of hands allows the life forces to begin the healing work in the physical body, by reason of which substances foreign to the body are cast out, whether those substances result from breakdown or decay of tissues, from improper food or from improperly digested food, or from drugs. In any case, healing must come as a natural process from within the individual. Just as a cut on the finger heals from within, so do the organs of the body heal from within when we let the life forces function as God intended.
~ Lloyd Arthur Meeker
Attunement Through the Laying on of Hands
From a young age, Lloyd Arthur Meeker was inspired by these words of Jesus, urging his disciples to carry on his healing ministry:
They shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.
The practice of laying on of hands appears around the world and down through history for health and to convey spiritual empowerment.
In the fifth century B.C., Hippocrates, the father of modern medicine, made this comment in Greece:
It has often appeared, while I have been soothing my patients as if there was a singular property in my hands to pull and draw away from the affected parts, aches, and diverse impurities by laying my hand upon the place and extending my fingers toward it.
Jewish tradition contains a practice of laying on of hands that dates back to the time of Moses. It was used to empower the priesthood of his day.
And thou shalt bring the Levites before the LORD: and the children of Israel shall put their hands upon the Levites.
The Sans people of southern Africa use laying on of hands for healing, as do the Navajo people.
In Christianity, the laying of hands is used for healing, ordination, and conveying the holy spirit.
Energy medicine practitioners of today carry on this ancient, global practice in the context of a post-modern society. Often, it is presented in a secular context without reference to faith or spirituality. This makes the laying on of hands available to people irrespective of any religion, tradition, or spiritual path.
Attunement practitioners take advantage of the knowledge of anatomy and physiology brought to us by modern medicine. At the same time, we acknowledge that consciousness and spirituality are vital by the very nature of the Attunement process. The practitioner invokes the power of healing from within the body because they have learned to open themselves to it. This doesn’t rely on any specific faith tradition. The human body knows no organized religion. It does rely on what underlies all faiths. It relies on Attunement to the source of life and healing within us all.
What Is Attunement?
Attunement is a consciousness practice and an energy medicine practice that leads to personal spiritual regeneration.
So much to enquire and focus on within the realms of healing – loving all what has been mentioned in the words you’ve written. I have thought further of the many varied forms of healing – there is prayer, contemplation, chant and mediation are mindful forms of healing. Being in nature, through dance or being in the force field of the sea a soft breeze, wild winds, lying in the sand or on the earth brings healing. Reading and listening to music brings healing. The quietness of a holy building or sacred space brings healing. A pet or a painting can bring healing. Watching a programme or a film can bring healing. So many forms of creative activity can bring healing in diverse ways. Not to mention the many other named healing formats like Reiki or Bowen technique.
Also being with another person who brings healing oxygenation just by their presence. I remember as a young woman having glandular fever never thinking it would ever go away – a friend visited me and sat at my bedside and immediately I felt relief for some reason their presence bought profound healing to me – I’ll never forget that.
I’ve also come to the understanding that when the body needs specific healing if the person is open, aware and in touch with their physical self – the healing medicine appears in whatever form it needs to be in. I have recognised this in so many aspects of my own healing processes. Just like the saying – when the student is ready the teacher appears the same often happens with healing.
I do advocate becoming an Attunement practitioner because you can apply it to so many elements of life and living – it is not only an exceptional and unique practise it’s universal for all forms of healing. Plus you only need your own self to apply it – Attunement is the conscious active presence of the pureness of loving with a generous awakened unconditionality. These ingredients make ATTUNEMENT healing, a potent power, to not only heal the self and others but the whole world too.
This information is such a blessing for those who already know it – and those who suddenly know it once they have read it. It goes within with such ease – thank you.
Thank you David for reminding us of the power of attunements. Like you mentioned, hand on practice is important but without being conscious of what I carry from within me, nothing creative happens. It is therefore imperative to always bring the power of unconditional love to welcome all into the present moment as I share attunements. 🙏🏾❤️
I also have recognized that the hands provide excellent instruments for focusing and conveying the Attunement current.
Many thanks, David. You have shared some quotes I did not know but more importantly it is good to be reminded that attunement is NOT form-dependent — touch can carry power and so can non-touch. What is important is ME, my ability to be a clear corridor for spirit to pour through. Thank you so much. Love, Tom C.
