This Week’s Quotation:
The sovereign soul
~ Bhagavad Gita
Who lives self-governed and at peace,
Is centered in himself, taking alike
Pleasure and pain; heat, cold; glory and shame.
He is the Faithful and Illumined One, glad
With joy of light and truth; dwelling safely
In the Central Way, with senses subjugate.
By this sign is he known:
Being of equal grace to comrades, friends,
Chance-comers, strangers, lovers, enemies,
Aliens and kinsmen; loving all alike, Evil or good.
Within the Hedge he lives;
Restraining heart and senses, silent, calm,
Let him express Reality, showing Pureness of soul, abiding on the Rock,
Tranquil in spirit, free of fear, intent
On Me, expressing thought of Me.
That Faithful One, so devoted, so controlled,
Comes to the peace beyond—My peace, the peace
Of highest Heaven!
The Sovereign Soul
These words from Krishna in the Bhagavad Gita speak to us even now. Amidst the call to what can sound like impossible qualities of character and experience, there is something so compelling and truthful. The words of this ancient text evoke an inner poise and grace that I know to be the truth of who I am. And I don’t believe you are any different from me.
Reading Krishna’s words, it can sound like he is calling for an act of supreme self-discipline. But wait! The last lines of this reading belie that interpretation:
That Faithful One, so devoted, so controlled,
Comes to the peace beyond–My peace, the peace
Of highest Heaven!
Ultimately, what makes a spiritual practice successful is surrender to what is higher than the immediate experience, not human effort.
And so I surrender to Krishna’s peace. I surrender to what Krishna represents in the story—the rightful Lord of my sovereign soul, knowing that my surrender opens me to all the qualities of character and experience Krishna describes. This brings Attunement to all of who and what I am, as it does for anyone.
What is Attunement?
Attunement is a consciousness practice and an energy medicine practice that leads to personal spiritual regeneration.
The line “loving all alike” good and evil – truly speaks to me in that it is my understanding that the soul see’s beyond all behaviour to the true essence of another, their soul-self and radiates love regardless.
The Sovereign Soul is an alive anchor of love navigating ease and harmony in all the myriad encounters we have in our daily living. It also allows me to have a soft heart, where no fear or flippancy resides, rather the pure and strong radiance of heaven to be my outpouring. Really letting IT BE.

The soveriegn soul. this is who I am. There is no limit for my love within. The world my friends my family even those i do not know are asking this of me to bring my love unconditionally & to let go of judgements & fears I surrender to you allowing for the presence of something deeper something profound to come forward in my world that is not mine but belongs to all of us and beyond. This is the sharing this is the connection that is the joy and passion of my life. I am called to bring this.
I love the last sentence ‘what makes a spiritual practice successful is surrender to what is higher than the immediate experience, not human effort.’. To surrender and to trust there is a benevolent design/presence/something beyond self that is trustworthy and I can surrender to
Its simple really, I ‘be’ in that Realm which is vast, in a place of Peace and Love, and from this place energy flows out through into the substance of creation. Our soul longs to be in communion with out Highest Love.
It seems to me that the key in the final portion of this meditation is devotion to Me, the Me that is at my core. When there is devotion, there is the key to letting the power of peace shine through the wholeness of Me, inner and outer.
How beautiful, how natural, that when the truth is sounded, spoken, wrtitten in whatever age or language , poetry or prose those who come to stillness connection and centredness , know the same experience .
To love without question? Rather “surrender to what is higher than one’s immediate experience, not human effort” but because I/we belong to a great Divine whole. Seek inward the love and light of belonging to our Divine while releasing patterns of beliefs of the mind and social separations. Reminds. me, of John’s words, paraphrased “Be in the world but not of the world”.
This takes practice and realigning continually.
“Comes to the peace beyond–My peace, the peace
Of highest Heaven!”
Who wouldn’t want that!. Centered and still, loving and radiant. These are qualities of our primal nature so often seen as hard work or suffering. Let me surrender even more to that inner reality
Surrendering to Peace – these words just started scrolling through my mind like the blinking lights in Times Square – and they were followed by REMEMBER…..Thank you….
We are truly set free to be in the experience of the sovereign soul and to know that
that is our true place of dwelling when we surrender in each moment of our living to
choose the high road which is always clearly marked and available. Our soul rejoices.
