This Week’s Quotation:
Thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.
~ Psalm 23
My Cup Runneth Over
These words are translated from some of the most ancient words available in the libraries of the world. Even if they were originally written by King David—as is widely assumed—they would be about 3,000 years old. And perhaps they are even more ancient.
Psalm 23 is not only ancient but also popular. It is read, put to music, and sung by both Christians and Jews around the world.
Okay. So these words are old and popular. But why? And what might they mean to you or me? And what might they have to do with the process of Attunement?
Rituals anointing a person by smearing oil on their forehead are pervasive in cultures globally. Oil is a symbol of Universal Love, and the forehead is the place of the third eye. Within the forehead are the pineal and the pituitary glands that are the temple of the third eye.
Attunement Practitioners know the pineal as the seat of the Spirit of Love. And the pituitary gland is the seat of the Spirit of the Womb in which life is conceived by the Spirit of Love.
The physical act of anointment ritualizes this communion. But the psalm is not addressing a human being who is enacting a ritual. It speaks of the invisible source of Love. So this is not just about a ritual. It is naming an ever-present reality of internal experience. Every moment of every day, the oil of Love anoints our head.
Yes, we could block this experience to some degree. But when we open to it and embrace it, our cup is filled, and we overflow with Love, the essence of life.
The implication of this is two-fold. Firstly, the Attunement Practitioner has the honor of facilitating this anointing through the energy medicine practice they offer. The second implication is that there are conscious practices in living for anyone who embraces the anointment always available to us. Those practices center in openness to Universal Love and a consistent flow of Universal Love in all things.
My cup runneth over.
What is Attunement?
Attunement is a consciousness practice and an energy medicine practice that leads to personal spiritual regeneration.
In just the few verses of the 23rd Psalm we find all of the wisdom and spiritual instruction needed to live a creative and fulfilling life on earth. It is truly an ancient treasure preserved for our present day.
Each night I have a ritual of cleansing and always use a dot of castor oil on my forehead located where my third eye is (pineal area) – Castor oil is an ancient Sacred healing oil in itself. Each time I place a dot of it on my third eye I do feel a sense of self anointment and recognition of of connection to the Divine source. It also grounds me and allows a little time for reflection, blessing and consciously begins the release of the days events. It sets a pattern for a holy ritual each night for me as simple as it is – the moment I place the dot of oil there for some reason I know all is well and it’s time to let go.
When I was about 8 years old my grandmother first read me the 23rd Psalm. Something about it touched me so I memorized it. At the time the message I received from it was that there was a God somewhere who cared about me and I was safe. Although I have since gained a deeper knowledge of the actual words, it still has that same feeling to me. Thanks, David, for shedding even more insight into how this ancient, timeless message is very pertinent to our lives today.
I live in an Intentional Community – filled with love and blessings – My Cup Runneth Over
